I am downsizing my 50+ year western and antique china collection. Up for auction is an original vintage Tepco (Wallace competitor)“Western Traveler pattern set of 6 side plates. See photos. Pony Express rider is saddling his horse at corral is main theme with stagecoach border motif. Stored in my dish pantry for decades. Old new stock so these plates look unused even though vintage!
TEPCO or Tepco (Technical Porcelain and China Ware Company), was founded in 1918 by John Battista Pagliero, who had emigrated to California from Italy with his brother in 1908. The original Tepco factory was located in his back yard in El Cerrito, California.
Once a major West Coast producer of restaurant ware and El Cerrito's largest employer, Technical Porcelain and China Ware Company lives on in its legacy of sturdy dishes.
The American West was well-represented early on with Western Traveler and branding iron patterns, some of which was similar to Wallace China El Rancho and Westward Ho patterns, resulting in Wallace suing Tepco for infringement.
