    Description

    **
This store is where an old collector of Chinese paintings offers for sale items that he finds interesting, beautiful and thought-provoking.
Each buyer is invited to use his/her judgment as to the probability of authenticity of the paintings - that is where the fun of collecting is
    .
    **
Attributed to Wang Zhen, this work is typical of his style in the late 20s. (See for example
    :
Chinese Art including Selected Works of Art from the T.Y. Chao Family Collection
    - Sotheby's, November 30, 2017, Lots 584 and 585). Although he was a disciple of Wu Changshuo, he went further in the exploration of watercolour effects, combined with the quick strokes associated with so-called "zen painting" and generally Buddhist influences.
An inscription, with a seal and a signature are attributed to this
artist, as is the seal in the bottom right.
Far from being a simple "still life"
composition, this work weaves the colorful plants - potted or scattered on the floor - between multiple receding vertical planes. This painting would probably look best under glazing in a frame.
