Tang Yin (1470 - 1523) byname Bohu and alternatively Ziwei and styled Liuru Jushi and alternatively, Taohua'anZhu was a native of Wuxian (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province) . A skilled landscapist, he had achievement in figure and bird-and-fiower paintings too. He inherited the style of the Southern Song Painting Academy and at the same time employed brushwork of the literati painters of his time. Therefore he had been admired by literati artists. He was one of the four Ming-dynasty masters - the other three being Shen Zhou (1427 - 1509), Wen Zhengming and Qiu Ying (1498 - 1552).
Tang Yin's style partakes both the literati artists of the Wumen School and the Southern-Song Painting Academy artist Li Tang(1066-I150) , as exemplified by this painting. Rocks in the painting are depicted with the "axe-cutting" texture stroke that emphasizes the solidity of the rocks. The color is light and graceful, quite different from Li Tang's style. This painting and his other painting, Soughing Wind in Pines on Mountain Path are two of his masterworks.
